Chinese Dramas on Amazon Prime Video: September 2019

Chinese Dramas on Amazon Prime Video

I’ve seen a lot of Chinese dramas added to Amazon Prime Video this year, but it seems difficult to actually find them so I’ve put together this list of some notable dramas I’ve stumbled across on the site. There are a good number of dramas from this year & the past three years! (Please note: all Amazon links in this post are my affiliate links.)

Heavy Sweetness (2018)

More commonly known as Ashes of Love or Heavy Sweetness, Ash-like Frost, this very pastel-heavy & hugely popular fantasy romance drama stars Yang Zi, Deng Lun, and Luo Yunxi.

Princess in the East Palace (2019)

This popular historical drama from earlier this year is more commonly known as Goodbye, My Princess. If you’re looking for a tearjerker, you’re in luck.

Legend of Fuyao (2018)

This fantasy adventure drama spans multiple kingdoms & a very large cast of characters. Yang Mi was great as usual, but I found Ethan Juan a real scene-stealer with his cunning & charm.

Love Me, If You Dare (2015)

Wallace Huo plays a criminal psychologist with a very high IQ but low EQ, who falls in love with his assistant, played by Sandra Ma, while solving some very violent cases. A must-watch for fans of crime thrillers!

Ruyi’s Royal Love in the Palace (2018)

Another Wallace Huo drama! I actually haven’t watched this, because it came out around the same time as The Story of Yanxi Palace, which kind of tells the same story but from a different perspective. I loved Yanxi Palace SO much that I just can’t root for Ruyi.

In Youth (2019)

Here’s a 2019 modern drama for you, about a group of young adults pursuing careers and love. The two leads, played by Zhang Yun Long and Qiao Xin, work at a PR firm. I loved the male lead’s tight-knit group of friends but I did skim through the middle portion of this drama. (Aside from Qiao Xin, the main cast are all rising stars in Yang Mi’s entertainment company, Jaywalk Studio.)

The Legend of Haolan (2019)

If you fell in love with Wu Jinyan after The Story of Yanxi Palace, this is her follow-up historical drama which I have heard great things about! I haven’t watched it yet because when it came out, I was still recovering from Yanxi Palace.

Legend of Dragon Pearl (2017)

I confess that I’m not a huge Yang Zi fan but I actually liked her in this drama! Qin Jun Jie stars as the male lead and I thought they had great chemistry (also, they dated in real life).

The Flame’s Daughter (2018)

I didn’t finish watching this drama and I can’t remember why, but I was very intrigued by the pairing of Dilraba Dilmurat and Vic Chou (who I will always think of as Hua Ze Lei from Meteor Garden). The supporting cast is great and includes Vin Zhang and Liu Rui Lin (a lot of Jaywalk Studio faces here).

More Dramas

Here are some other dramas I’ve stumbled across from 2017-2019, which I’ve listed in order of how likely I am to one day watch them. (Note again that all links are my Amazon affiliate links, although they are all free to stream with Prime Video!)

The Magical Nights of Glorious Tang (2018) aka An Oriental Odyssey, a historical-fantasy drama starring Janice Wu and Zheng Ye Cheng

Novoland: Eagle Flag (2019), a historical-fantasy drama starring Liu Haoran and Song Zu Er (mostly on my radar because Liu Haoran was so good in Nirvana in Fire 2)

The Longest Day in Chang’an (2019), a historical action/crime drama that I’ve heard a lot of great things about, starring Jackson Yi of TFBOYS and Lei Jia Yin

A Journey to Meet Love (2019), a modern action-suspense drama starring Chen Xiao and Jing Tian

The Heaven Sword and Dragon Saber (2019), an adaptation of the third book in Jin Yong’s Condor Trilogy starring Joseph Zeng and Chen Yuqi

Queen Dugu (2019), a historical drama starring Chen Qiao En and Chen Xiao

Legend of Dugu (2018), a historical drama starring Ady An, Hu Bing Qing and Zhang Dan Feng

Guardian (2018), a science-fiction/fantasy drama based on a BL novel starring Bai Yu and Zhu Yi Long

Investiture of the Gods (2019), a fantasy drama starring Wang Li Kun, Luo Jin, and Deng Lun

Fighter of the Destiny (2017), a fantasy drama starring Luhan and Gu Li Na Zha (Janice Wu and Joseph Zeng play supporting characters)

Destiny of the White Snake (2018), another Yang Zi fantasy drama, this time co-starring Ren Jia Lun

Bloody Romance (2018), a historical-fantasy drama about assassins starring Qu Chu Xiao (who you may recognize from the sci-fi film The Wandering Earth) and Li Yi Tong (I hear this drama is as violent as the title suggests)

From Survivor to Healer (2019), a modern psychologist/doctor drama starring Shawn Dou and Vivi Miao (looked very serious/sad)

I Cannot Hug You (2017), a modern drama about a vampire and a germaphobe starring Xing Zhao Lin and Zhang Yu Xi (season 2 is also available)

Mr. Swimmer (2018), a modern drama starring Ju Jingyi and Mike Angelo

My Little Princess (2016), a modern drama starring Zhang Yu Xi and Mike Angelo

Dear Prince (2017), a modern drama starring Zhang Yu Xi and Melvin Sia
