Things get painful in this episode, and I’m certain it’s only the beginning but I’m too invested to stop watching. My reactions to this episode will be at the bottom so skip to that part if you’ve already seen this episode.
(I know it’s random that I’m recapping episode 44, I might go back and recap a couple episodes before this one.)
Episode 44 Recap
Mei Ya goes to the bank and finds out her aunt withdrew her dad’s money. Ou Yang goes to the hospital and frustratingly cries at Mei Ya’s dad’s bedside, asking why he didn’t say anything before they fell in love. Then he says he won’t give up until the end, he’s going to investigate thoroughly and runs out of the hospital. Around the corner, Chen Zhe is lurking.
Wei Wei calls Mei Ya and tells her that online it’s being reported that their engagement is fake, and all the past articles about their relationship have been erased. Shocked, Mei Ya tries to call Ou Yang repeatedly but he doesn’t pick up. Instead of picking up her calls, Ou Yang arranges to get on the next flight to Bangkok.
Mei Ya thinks Ou Yang is returning her calls but it’s his dad. He asks to meet up and she rushes over. Ou Yang’s dad tries to give her money, saying it’s in Ou Yang’s stead, but Mei Ya says if this is what Ou Yang wants, why doesn’t he tell her himself. Ou Yang’s dad says he is respecting her father’s wishes. Mei Ya doesn’t understand, since last night he was in agreement, why did he suddenly change his mind. Ou Yang’s dad says it’s his fault, since he and her dad were in business before but he changed and did some terrible things. Since Ou Yang is going to take over the company, her dad is worried he’ll end up going down the same road.
Chen Zhe walks into Mei Ya’s dad’s hospital room wearing a doctor’s white coat and mask, saying sorry to him before he removes his breathing mask.
Mei Ya’s aunt goes to the shady guy she met up with before (after that necklace pawning scene) and he gives her the (fake) papers for Mei Ya’s dad’s house.
Mei Ya angrily yells at Ou Yang’s dad about giving them hope and then taking it away. He tells her not to come back to the company and to stay by her dad’s side. He offers the card with the money but Mei Ya turns it down again.
A nurse runs to a doctor’s office to report that Mei Ya’s dad’s breathing mask was removed. Luckily, they discovered it in time, but remind Mei Ya that he urgently needs the surgery. Mei Ya’s aunt returns and Mei Ya asks her where her dad’s money is. Her aunt says why doesn’t she ask Ou Yang for the money and says that she knows Ou Yang is denying the engagement, calling her stupid. Mei Ya tells her aunt that in the future they will have no relationship but Mei Ya’s aunt pulls out her fake papers and says her dad left the house to her. Mei Ya, shocked, begs her aunt to sell the house to pay for the surgery to save her dad’s life but her aunt says if they sell the house and then he dies, they’ll be left with nothing.
Wei Wei (working at the restaurant) is still concerned about Mei Ya, and calls her brother, but he says if she needs anything she will contact him. He then tries to call Ou Yang but his phone is off.
At the hospital, Tu Dou tries to convince a listless looking Mei Ya to eat some of the food he brought. He gives Mei Ya money but Mei Ya refuse its. He says her dad helped save him but Mei Ya says even with his money it’s not enough. Tu Dou suggests they sell the food stall, so Mei Ya asks him to contact the person who was previously interested in buying.
Ou Rui’s dad has been drinking and flashes back to him persuading Chen Zhe to let go of Ming Ya’s dad’s hand.
Mei Ya returns home to find that her key no longer works. She bangs on the door, but her aunt sits inside in the dark. She leaves her aunt several messages. She then tries to call Ou Yang but he’s on the flight and can’t answer.
As Mei Ya sits outside, she thinks back to the moments where they promised each other they’d be there for each other no matter what. Mei Ya returns to the hospital but her dad’s room is empty. The nurse says that since they haven’t paid the hospital bills, they’ve moved him to a different room, shared with other patients.
WHAT AN EPISODE, RIGHT? Let’s not even talk about Chen Zhe; he’s such a lost cause at this point. For a moment, I thought he was at the hospital out of concern, and relieved that Mei Ya’s dad was alive but alas, I gave him too much credit.
Mei Ya’s aunt not even wanting to try to save her own brother AND changing the locks that quickly?! That’s pretty heartless. Isn’t it enough that she took her brother’s money and stole the house? She can’t even allow Mei Ya to sleep there? I have had enough of this selfish woman.
But most importantly, I’m really angry at the way Ou Yang reacts. The first thing I thought when this possible siblings storyline began was, I’LL BELIEVE IT WHEN I SEE THE DNA TEST, so I’m glad that Ou Yang thinks about that. However, the way he disappears on Mei Ya when her dad’s in the hospital is so inconsiderate. Since the news is reporting that their engagement is untrue, he should have said SOMETHING to Mei Ya. ANYTHING. I get that he feels like he’s in limbo while he confirms the truth but Mei Ya doesn’t deserve to suddenly find out secondhand that her relationship is over without a world from her fiance.
